To give...

...or to keep. That I just cannot decide. When I started knitting I intended to give this to a friend, but I love it so much! It's handspun yarn and I didn't spin it. It was well worth every penny I paid. It was beautifully spun and I enjoyed knitting with it so much. It's one of a kind, so I want to keep it. But then I ask myself: Do I really want to knit the same sweater again, but with different yarn? Maybe, maybe not. That will all depend on the yarn, it could make or break the knitting experience. I know, I could find another sweater, nothing hit my fancy and I know this will fit next year.

The Pattern: It's a one size pattern with no gauge given...not my kind of pattern because I always change something. I figured out the gauge by figuring out how many stitches for the chest and went from there with my gauge for my handspun. It's was such a cute and easy pattern I went with it.

The Yarn: It was 150 yards per 4 ounces. Gotta love a bulky yarn once in a while!

It took me a week to make this sweater. That is all I wanted it to take, after all it was suppose to be a gift and I had 2 other projects on the needles.  The sweater will fit the child next fall/winter, so I have plenty of time for another. One more reason to keep it :)

Here is my little sweet modeling it for me. She just turned one!

Blinded by...

...Science is the PhatFiber theme for March. Here is what I submitted for my samples to the box. Thank you all for your contributions via my Ravelry Group contest! It would not have been so easy without your help, I'm not much of a science fan. Although I was inspired pretty easily by the eye images. As a former Surgical Technologist I was drawn to the eyes! Fascinating don’t you think? I primarily worked in Neuro Surgery, but occasionally got to work in the eye rooms as well and I enjoyed it.

I hope you enjoy the fibers that were inspired by all of these fantastic images! Some are one of kind, get them while they are available here at AFLoY Shop!

Well, I got one...

...goal met by the 18th of December. We've all been sick, first the kids one after another and then myself. I didn't get as much done as I hoped to. I think I put too much pressure on myself, not enough sleep and now I'm paying for it and not to mention I didn't get done what I wanted to anyway!

I finished Katya's blue hat and she loves it! I'm now making mittens to match, hopefully they will be done by Christmas. (I'm not even going to mention David's darn sweater ~ my worst nightmare lately!)
When David saw that Katya had her new hat he went straight to the closet and wanted his, too! He seemed so pleased that Katya had one now, too!
Here is the link for the Cozy Cabled Hat. I did make a few changes like adding another cable instead of stockinette stitch and I think it made it so cute. I love cables! I'll add it to my Ravelry page with modifications sometime soon I hope.

I used All for Love of Yarn's Lublu worsted in True Blue, Katya's favorite color.

A little Christmas...

...baking we did yesterday. I made Chunky Chocolate Chai Biscotti; we love to drink tea (as you can imagine), and these biscotti are wonderful with tea. I would love to send them out with all of your holiday Tea and Yarn packages but it just wouldn't be practical, allergies, some of you may not eat something made from a stranger, etc, etc. Here is the recipe for you to try if you like. Enjoy, now I'm off to knit, I'm seeming David's sweater, one sleeve attached and 1 to go! I'm making Katya a blue cabled hat, her choice, she's in love with the color blue and the Rose Red hat I made, remember the pink one? Well, it's a little too big for her and keeps falling into her eyes. Hopefully soon I'll have photos to show off to you! ~ Angela

I took a break...

...from the fair isle sweater I'm making for my son and made him this much more needed hat. I participated in an Indie Dyers swap on Ravlery and got this Merino/Silk/Cashmere yarn in the mail, it was the perfect red to go with my sons coat, I did think twice about the yarn fiber and if a little boy was worthy of such luxury...but of course, I love knitting with it and it so perfectly matches his coat and how often do you really need to wash a hat anyway? I wash almost everything I knit by hand to extend its life, after all I spend countless hours making these things and want them to last as long as possible, perhaps so my grandchildren can wear them some day.

It was a pleasure to knit with this lovely yarn and color, the hat will fit him for many years, and I'm glad because I have a list of other things I want to make, with a few things for me included and never enough time as the list is always growing!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had a fun day with all of my family.

Remember the sale going on in my shop through Monday. You'll get 10% off with code: BLACKFRIDAY10 and it includes all of my yarn clubs, including the tea and yarn, worsted weight, no-pooling variegated and nearly solid clubs, which are already discounted! Long gone...

...is the November Tea and Yarn for non club members. I have good news though...

Since all of the Holiday Special Edition packages are gone as well, I am going to do another one for December and I'm thinking about Tea and Fiber for you spinners out there, too.  I'll post when they are available!
The next round for the Tea and Yarn Club will be January, February and March, and they are still available for purchase in my shop

Oh no....

...it's the 17th! I was suppose to have the top 5 photos picked out and up to vote on by now! I'll get to it ASAP! The time has been flying by, trying to catch up on things since the festival and knitting or trying to knit my son's sweater, my first fair isle and it's 1 step forward 2 steps back. I keep going to something else, I'm not liking the process at all. I'm spinning this...
...75/25 Alpaca/Merino dyed by me, it's called earth and sky. I'm spinning it on my new spindle...
...that I got at the Fiber Festival. I like to get a little something at each festival, it's something to remember the event with in years to come. It brings back some great memories. I do this when I travel, or use to travel; I bought wine glasses, that was a lot of fun and makes for great conversation at the dinner table.

Anyway... about the spindle...it's from The Dragonfly Workshop. I broke my other favorite, but this was immediately a favorite for it's long, steady and balanced spin. I got to try it out at the festival, so that was a real bonus, and it was great to meet the person who made it and his family. I'm spinning finer and a more even yarn with it, too. It's all very exciting and now I like spinning even more, can you imagine that?

Tea and Yarn...

...November colorway is going to be up for sale within the next 24 hours! There is just 1 available, so keep your eye out for it!
Hint: It's a favorite to keep you warm on the inside and with the yarn it will keep you warm on the outside, too in the cold winter months ahead...

What a whirl wind...

...weekend we had! The Festival was a great success and so much fun! It was so wonderful to see all of my hard work pay off and especially to see everyone's reactions to my yarn in person. It was so great to meet all of you who visited me and get to know some of you a little more. I met some people that I've been talking with via email and ravelry for the past few months and that was so much fun. Thank you for making this festival a great success!
My dear Mom, known as Mama Lu since my daughter could talk, was with me at the festival to help me in whatever I needed. My son David was with us, so she was basically in charge of him. She was a great help so that I could talk with all of you who visited and not worry about taking money and writing receipts. I think she's going to get an extra special gift this Christmas! Thank you Mom!
The not so much fun part was the flat tire we had on the way home! I was just thankful that it didn't happen on the way to the festival in the morning; God is watching out for us and there must have been some reason that we needed to be delayed in getting home. My Mom would have changed the tire, but we couldn't get the darn spare tire out from underneath the van. Daylight was vanishing quite quickly and while Mom was loosening the lug nuts she made me crawl under the van to see if I could get the spare tire off. Do you think anyone stopped? No! It takes my husband 15 -30 minutes to get it off, extremely poor design on minivans he says. As we waited for my husband to arrive from 45 minutes away at my parents home she told me of the time when she was at a park in the days of no cell phones and no one around with 4 or 5 kids (I'm the first of 6) in tow, and a Suburban. She had a flat and she changed it, there was no choice, she just had to do it. Me, I was like, I have a phone and a husband who is able to come, or our insurance would cover the cost if we had no one to call.  She was quite determined to change it herself, but again the spare tire ordeal...

My husband got there and then 2 cars decide to stop and see if we need help, that would have been nice when I was laying under the van with my skirt on.

We made it home (to my parents) an hour later than expected. Katya was having a grand time getting into Mama Lu's lipstick when Boompa (Grandpa, also named by Katya) wasn't looking and she had her Aunt Hannah's clothes on. She didn't seem to excited to see me that's for sure, I think I was interrupting her fun!

We live 1 hour away from my parents home so I was stuck until Monday when I could get the flat tire fixed. We had planned on getting all new tires anyway so it worked out. I left the kids with Mama Lu and their Aunties and I headed to get the new tires and I actually enjoyed my time there spinning while I waited for the tires to be put on the van. I bought a new spindle at the festival, and couldn't wait to use it. I grabbed some fiber that didn't sell and had an hour all to myself to spin! I love new tires, especially before winter, they are worth every cent I paid.

I made it home Monday late afternoon and finally got the car unloaded this morning, actually my husband did it for me. He is such a wonderful man, what would I do without him I ask myself sometimes. I am a very blessed woman indeed!

I have the shop updated for now with more things coming a little at a time. I have to get an order ready for Kristin's Knit's in Rochester, Minnesota and then I hope to get some serious knitting done! I have a mental list of what I want to get done here pretty quickly. We are enjoying these last few days of nice weather first we spent the morning at the park, I think they are predicting snow come this weekend.

As promised to all of you at the festival I will have photos of my shawls and socks with links to the patterns on Ravelry very soon. I'll do that next if the kids stay sleeping! You can find it in the All Knitted Up! section in the right hand column.

Thank you again to all of you who made this fiber festival a great success for me.

Enter your photographs...

..and it could be the inspiration for a new colorway! You will get a free skein of the new colorway, too!  Here's how it will work:

I want you to send me your beautiful photographs, I'm looking for content and color in the photo, it doesn't have to be a perfect photo technically, you don't have to be a great photographer for this contest!  We here at All For Love Of Yarn will narrow the photos down to the 5 that I think I can produce the most beautiful yarn colorway. Then it is up to you to vote on which one you like the best and that will be turned into yarn, on the base of my choice, that will work best for the colorway. The winner of the favorite photo will win 1 full skein (around 400 yards, either fingering or sport weight) of yarn in the new colorway!

Rules:
Submission of photos:
November 1st through November 15th. Submissions before and after these dates will not be accepted.
Photo Specifications:
One entry/photo per person.
It might be posted on my blog, so don't send anything you don't want the public to see.
Photo must be taken by you, not snagged from the internet.
Photo cannot be of yarn.
Respectful and tasteful photographs please.
No person's faces please.
I have all rights to accept or not accept any photo for any reason without explanation.
Send photos as an ATTACHMENT with these specs please: Jpeg format, around 1200 pixels wide. Please do not send links to online photo albums, only attachments. Thanks.
Send  photos to: allforloveofyarn@gmail.com
Include with your email a name I can use on my blog to give you credit for the photo.

Voting will be November 17th through 28th. I will post the top 5 photos and you will have a chance to vote on your favorite, the one you would like to see turned into some beautiful socks perhaps, or whatever you can imagine!  The winner will be announced before the end of November.

I will dye the yarn inspired by the winning photograph and the winner will receive one skein at the beginning of December, sometime before the 15th of the month.  It will be a fingering/sock weight in either hand painted variegated, kettle dyed variegated, solid, or semi-solid, around 400 yards, my choice.

You may post your photo in my Ravelry group: All For Love Of Yarn! There is a specific thread for September photos.

October Top 5 Photos...

...are up for you to vote on! Thank you to all of you for entering your photographs. I really appreciate the inspiration and enjoy the challenge of dyeing yarn and fiber to match a photo.

Autumn Star Light
Submitted by: Camille
I'm envisioning this on silk to capture the luminosity of the photo with gold as the main color accented with  deep blue violet, purple, magenta and burgundy.

Autumn in Vegas
Submitted by: Allison
There were a few Halloween themed photos this month and I wanted to include at least one of them and this was the favorite. It is very captivating and I think it will produce a menagerie of color on some yarn.

Pink Petals
Submitted by: Pauline
This flower is just simply beautiful! I see it kettle dyed on some luscious yarn in a pale pink, I can just feel the smooth petals looking at it!

Door Pink
Submitted by: Jessy Austin
This pink door in the middle no where is captivating and it makes me wonder what awaits our imagination on the other side.  I think I may focus on the door if I dye this, pretty bright pink and white.

Galway of Houses
Submitted by: Maeve
The serenity of water is very intriguing; I think a semi -solid blue would be gorgeous on a silk blend to capture the luminous water.

We had a lovely...

...relaxing weekend. Saturday we spent the afternoon and evening at my parents with my family and some friends. I brought a long my 20 some skeins of yarn and hung them in the tree, a perfectly beautiful day to be outside. They were dry in almost 2 hours!
I also got some inspiration for my November Phat Fiber samples. The theme is Seasons of Light. I have a few ideas, this being one of them. Every fall we look forward to bonfires, roasting marshmallows, eating smores and staying warm by the fire into the wee hours of the night or morning for some! I have not thought of exactly how I'm going to put it on the yarn or fiber yet, but I have some time to think about it. Some very yummy fiber is in the mail, coming soon, too!
Today was also spent with friends, the kids had a wonderful time playing together and we all feel refreshed and ready to start a new week! I'm feeling much better than last week for sure, a little bit of my cold is hanging on, but I'm feeling better by the day and ready to catch up from last week.

First to do is make bread and a deliscious cake, because my TeaCakeKnitters Club is on Wednesday night. I will be teaching how to knit cables, as requested by a friend. It's really much easier than it looks, I love them so it will be a fun time!

I need to skein up those 20 some skeins plus about another 20 or so, gradually over the week. I want to also dye more worsted weight. I've thought about how I want to dye it while I was sick and it's going to be fun oh so great to knit with!

Too many other things to mention, both my kids are sleeping, so I'm off to do some knitting on David's sweater so he can wear it soon!
