November's yarn...

...and fiber, too! As most of you know I contribute to the Phat Fiber box monthly. November's theme is Season of Light and I was in search of some good inspiration and then this great photo came in for the contest. It was perfect, so for my samples I did up the fiber in both Silk and BFL. Of course I did the yarn, too and since I choose this for my phat fiber samples the colorway will be fully revealed this month. The yarn is Nogi 90/10 Merino/Nylon and it's dyed with a minimal pooling technique.

The photos this month were so seasonally inspiring, I have a few more colorways coming, too!

Congratulations...

...ZoePaige for your wonderful photograph of the Saskatoon Berries. It was my pleasure to dye this yarn because purple is one of my favorite colors. I think it turned out really wonderfully, first try, too! Lately this has been very challenging when I'm going for a certain colorway.

Since I wanted to do a semi solid I narrowed in on the dark purple/blue and the yarn is very rich in color; I just love it! Here is a sneak peak and it is listed in the shop.

The winner's yarn...

...finally; I think. It's been a real challenge to get this one right; three times at the dye pot to be exact. I have 2 versions of this one, same colors just a different dyeing technique. I love them both. The first yarn is a lighter version, the most accurate I think; it is on Opulence, Merino/Cashmere/Nylon. The second is a darker, richer version and it is on Sumptuosity, /Baby Alpaca/Cashmere/Silk. These were the second and third attempts, don't even ask about the first! You might be able to spot it in the shop if you have a good imagination...

While I was dyeing this the first time I was picturing myself in Duluth, Minnesota, which has a similar landscape. Duluth is one of my favorite cities so it was pretty easy to get this in my head. I love climbing rocks like these and walking on the rocks in the water. I imagine the lake breeze surrounding me and soaking in the splashes from the water and smelling the cool, crisp air. It was all a delight until I realized that the yarn was not what I was feeling or imagining! My second attempt was better, but I was still unsure until it was dry and I loved it even if it didn't depict the photo exactly. The third depicts it the most accurately I think and would make a great pair of socks, this is what Rev Joy wants to make with it anyway...we can't wait to see them!

Thank you to everyone for your very informative feedback on my Etsy shop. I appreciate it very much and have learned a lot from you. I enjoyed reading every single comment. I like constructive criticism because I know I can become better as a result. Because of this little project you will be seeing some changes in the shop, some more subtle than others. The Winner is...

...Lilly from Helen Georgia with her beautiful and very inspirational Autumn Path photo. This photo was taken on Lilly's wedding day! What a beautiful place for a wedding and thank you so much for submitting it.  Lilly, you can expect your skein in the mail soon!

My favorite photo was the Bluebird, so you'll be seeing some yarn in the shop like it soon. Since this one didn't capture my eye as quickly as the Bluebird I thought long and hard about how I wanted to dye the yarn for Autumn Path. I have been on a similar path in Russia and thought about how I felt when I walked on it. I remember feeling the bristling of the turning leaves and smelling the fresh and crisp air of autumn. I wanted it be a soft color, like the soft leaves, yet I wanted  it to capture the brilliant colors of the leaves and ground. I didn't want it too contrasting so that it flows nicely in a knitted piece. I imagine walking and seeing the dark ground with most of the color all around me. I went from there and I think I have a beautiful landscape on the yarn! Here is a sneak peak!

 Now, I need your help again! I'm terrible at naming my yarn, it's the worst part of my job actually. So, leave a comment and tell me what you think it should be called! Thank you to all who participated this month;  I look forward to next month's photos! Keep em' coming!

I've decided to keep it's original name, I don't know why I thought it had to be renamed anyway! So, it's called Autumn Path, how could we come up with a better one really? Silly me!
