Here's a messed up skein up for grabs. When I was re-skeining I went to cut the dye-ties and I accidentally cut the yarn! Yikes, never done that before...so there's knot number one.
Knot number two came almost half way through when it got tangled up in itself. I don't have time to waste so I cut it; that's why you see two skeins. It's a few yards short, but not by much.
The yarn is Opulence: Merino/Cashmere/Nylon...lucky for you! It's a fingering weight in a lovely dusky purple coming at over 400 yards.
My question for you is this:
Spinners: When you purchase fiber how many ounces do you like to buy in one colorway, including Top and Batts?
Not a spinner? That's okay, tell me what type of yarn you'd love to see in my shop.
I will draw the lucky winner on Monday, February 7th. I will post the winner and you will be responsible to contact me for the prize. If I don't hear from you within 1 week I will draw again for a new winner!
Thank you and Good Luck!
~ Angela
Hi Angela,
ReplyDeleteI usually look for 8oz when I buy fiber to spin, as 4oz doesn't go very far for me (it gives me enough for very short fingerless mitts).

Four ounces is sort of my bare minimum, I usually prefer six to eight. However, it also depends on what I want to make, so it varies. (marusempai on Rav)
ReplyDeleteWould love to see some yarn that is a wool/bamboo mix. I love the sheen that bamboo gives off and drapes nicely.
ReplyDeleteI'm very new to spinning so for now I've been ordering small amounts (1-2oz) to find out what sort of fibres I enjoy working with, but once I get the hang of it I think I'll be looking at 4oz minimum.
ReplyDelete(ilina on rav)
I'm also in the 4 - 8 ounce purchaser category... if I'm spinning for lace or socks, usually 8 oz, but if it's really pretty and there's only 4 left... that's ok too! For silks and other luxury items, I can see units of 2 oz or something (especially when the fiber goes really far) but then I'm likely to buy multiples of it :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the yarns you have and just wish I could afford to buy more of them! :D

I also think 4 oz is a minimum, with 6 or 8 oz being ideal. I do have a few 3 oz batts of more shimmery fiber for smaller projects like fingerless mitts. (jacrae on Rav)
ReplyDeleteWhat type of yarn would I love to see in your shop? You must be joking - I have a hard enough time deciding as it is!
ReplyDeleteIt's all gorgeous and it looks like every yummy combination is present; baby alpaca, silk, merino, cashmere, etc., etc.
I'm saving up for my first purchase. I may have the money before I make up my mind, ha!
Happy knitting, Marjon (SnailRacer)
I have to say at least 6 oz. Unless it is two batts or braids that go together, I kind of like that option as well. I bought 6 ozs, 3ozs of each color for my husbands socks which worked well.
ReplyDeletelotsofhermies on Rav
I like to purchase 4-6oz of roving at a time, but will occasionally purchase as little as 2 oz for an accent if I need it. This is fun!
ReplyDeleteI most often buy 8oz of fiber at a time, but am also always on the lookout for sweater quantities.
ReplyDeleteAngela,
ReplyDeleteAs others have stated, your current fiber collection is yummy beyond words! However, I'd like to see something blended with cotton or bamboo for summer. Maybe some sock-weight summer stuff?
MomOTwins on Rav
I bought a hand spindle and some fiber, but I've never spun before and don't know my preference! And I have yet to figure out how it all works :)
ReplyDeleteSo...to answer your other question, I LOVE baby alpaca!
afh163@gmail.com
I am not a spinner yet! So I would like to see on your shop more multicolored sock yarn as I love multicolor socks!
ReplyDeleteMercy! You know I love your yarns and just trying to save enough for anything with cashmere and/or silk is what is holding me back from buying the lot!
ReplyDeleteOh- your worsted weight yarn I knit up into fingerless mitts! I get tons of compliments on them! LOVE all your yarn!
I think all your yarns are looking lovely but I personally do love cashmere mixes to just add that extra something to the yarn or some silk or bamboo.
ReplyDeleteI normally buy about 6-8 oz. of fiber at a time.
ReplyDeleteYou have amazing blends already! About the only thing I didn't find that I would love to see and try to work with would be a bamboo/silk mix. It would be fun to see different ratios too, to see how the texture would evolve!
ReplyDelete(This is my first trip to your website and I am bookmarking it and plan to become a frequent shopper. You have a real talent for developing new yarns)
Ah, I wish I knew how to spin, but I'm glad you also offer yarn. I've enjoyed your yarns and just wish I could afford to purchase more and often. I can't think of another yarn because you cover the fibers I like to knit with so well.
ReplyDeleteJust Подробнее, пожалуйста!
Beautiful yarn and fiber! I try to get somewhere between 6 and 8 oz. also for spinning :)
ReplyDeleteMeditativerose on Ravelry
I love sock weight yarn that has a wide variety of colors (like your Nogi colorway!

I usually purchase about 4-8 oz, as well. If it's really really pretty, then I will get 16-32 oz! Sometimes, if it's pretty but theres's too little of it, I don't purchase it - but usually I contact the seller to see if they can dye/make more up for me!
ReplyDelete(sheralynn on Ravelry)
A bamboo mix of sometype...
ReplyDeleteAnd, I love to untangle yarn....

Im a new spinner so I tend to buy in 4-6oz. However if I am in love with a fiber I will get 8oz of it. It will eventually get spun and I'm sure I will need enough yardage to make anyting decent!

I don't spin, so for the wishlist, I would love to see some super bulky available.
ReplyDeleteI usually buy 4 oz at a time mostly because I don't have enough money for more. I have bought 3 oz though. I love spinning lace so smaller quantities is ok with me.
ReplyDeleteI love the yarns you have and I want to try them all, but I am always looking for nice wool cotton blends.
ReplyDeletegreyowl (ravelry id)
For spinning I like at least 6 oz. As for yarn, I like to knit socks, so yarns that are soft, durable and have a good twist I'm always on the lookout for.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to buy at least 4 oz., sometimes more. If it's a really gorgeous fiber and I think I can spin in finely enough to get decent yardage, I'll buy less.
ReplyDelete(InJuneau on Ravelry)
I'm not a spinner, so anything fingering weight is good for me. :)
ReplyDeleteNot a spinner (yet!) but I would prefer a minimum of 4 ounces, with the option to get more.
ReplyDeleteFiber type? Sock yarns with nylon for durability. I do love it when yarns are labeled with breed-specific info, too, even when it is not necessarily a "gourmet" breed.
(ThirtyOneThirteen on Ravelry!)
Another not-yet spinner chiming in. Your yarn and fiber are gorgeous! I love fingering and lace weight yarns, especially in combinations of merino, alpaca. cashmere, and silk.
ReplyDeleteI'm just a beginning spinner, but the 4 oz. rovings I've bought don't seem to produce enough yarn for me to make much out of, so I think 6-8 oz. would be a good range to start, more if I am buying for a sweater or big shawl.
ReplyDeleteMarie
(Rubenesque on Ravelry)
You already carry a big variety of yarn blends. I would like to see some bamboo blend.
ReplyDeleteI'm a beginner spinner, so I would say usually I purchase 4-5 oz. But in the future I'll probably start purchasing 6-8 oz, just because I can get more yardage that way C:
ReplyDeleteThanks for this P.I.T.A giveaway!
EB
I am not spinning yet and therefore only knit and lately I am doing a lot of socks. I usually look for Merino and Nylon Blends or Merino and Bamboo blends since they last very long.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this :)
I usually spin lace to sock weight yarns, so 4 to 8 oz usually gives me enough fiber for anything I want. Exact amount depends on what I want it for (and yes, I usually plan the project and the yarn for it first, and then look for the right fiber for what I want. I'm crazy like that).
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've purchased fiber, but 4oz is my minimum most of the time. I've gotten a couple in 8oz weights when I wanted more of a color for a specific project.

You have beautiful yarns. I usually prefer wool, but silk is starting to call to me. Maglieria on Ravelry
ReplyDeleteHidihi,
ReplyDeleteI love untangling, so I had to pop in here, saw your post in Rav, detanglers group, Knnot a problem!
I'm a newbie at spinning so I buy small amounts, maybe 2 sets of 4 oz(100g) each, why two sets, you ask, well so I just sit and spin one set of 4 oz onto bobbin nr 1 and then spin the second lot onto bobbin nr 2 and then I can ply them onto bobbin nr 3, and I don't have to worry about trying to find the 'middle' of one lot of 4oz, and try to judge where to stop so that I have even amounts of yarn for plying...
like I said, a real newbie....
as regards the yarn on your website, well it all looks gorgeous,
but all I really, really want to do is get a big tangle of wool to untangle, boy do I love untangling!!!
regards
liz in Ireland!
I'm joining the 4-8oz club! 4oz is enough so that you can ply and still have a fair amount of yarn. Exotic fibers are a little different but I usually won't buy something if it's under 4oz.
ReplyDeleteAnd your colorways are gorgeous, btw!
-kellibus on ravelry
To me,it might depend on the fiber I'm getting.
ReplyDeleteI'm roselake on Ravelry.
I'm still pretty new to spinning, but I usually try to aim for 3-4oz. Also, I have this weird knack for untangling knots, so this skein intrigues me...
ReplyDeleteI usually try to get at least 4oz because most of the time I have no idea what I'm going to knit with it. Darn impule buys lol.
ReplyDeleteI usually look form 8 ounces so I can have a lot of yarn
ReplyDeleteI usually end up getting 4oz if it's dyed, since I love braids and they're usually 4oz. I like getting large amounts of undyed fibre though, so I can spin it then dye it in whatever amount I want. I think I have about....20oz undyed wool sitting around? Hope it helps!

I am getting ready to learn to spin and so can't answer the first question yet.
ReplyDeleteBut, I have to say I like your shop and your yarns are just so pretty!
What type of yarn would I love to see in your shop?
ReplyDeleteI really love the yarns you already have, but I might be interested in a bamboo mix.
Beautiful yarn! I love silk wool blends.
ReplyDeletesock weight yarn in semi solids or color family variegated. i see in the post above this one that you are working on getting more of those into your shop. right on.
ReplyDeleteI am not a spinner (yet...maybe someday) I purchased my first skeins of your Opulence yarn recently and just cast on a pair of socks the other day. Love it so far!! Hope to try some other blends soon!
ReplyDeleteI am a spinner and I like to buy at least 6 oz otherwise there isn't enough for a project. That's a beautiful color, I love purple!
ReplyDeleteI'm the newbiest spinner around, and I've only bought fiber once. It came in a 50g (1.8 ounces) blob-like thing (probably a badly squished bat). I dyed it all together in a single colorway, and it turned out to be a great amount of fiber for a beginner. Enough to learn, but not enough to get bored of one color.
ReplyDeletei would love to see some DK weight. that's my new go-to yarn weight besides sock.
ReplyDeletebut i must add that all of your yarns are so yummy!!!
