What you see...

...is what you get! I have several listings in the shop for Vervaine, the most popular tea and yarn colorway. It's on a few of my regular bases and a few new ones too! I only dye this colorway for the shop about 2 times per year, so if you've had your eye on it now is the time to get it and you get to choose your base yarn! If you don't see a base yarn that you want just send me a message via Etsy and ask!

Tea and Fiber

Tea and Yarn

Thanks for looking and I hope you are having a great Monday! We are cleaning and organizing after a long winter of things piling up and getting misplaced. I rearranged the furniture Saturday and it helps to keep things fresh and new looking.

Fiber Friday...

...and it's good one this week! After many years, yes years on and off with many attempts to get the right fit and it's finished! My first hand knit sweater for me, I'm very happy with it and it's the only reason I'm looking forward to winter...not really.
Anyway, I started July 26th 2009 and half way done (top down) with the body decided it was too big. I ripped it out and started over on December 16th, 2009. I finished it, or so I thought I finished it on August 10th, 2010. I blocked it. The neck was up too high, it's suppose to be a boat neck and well, it was almost choking me. I tried to take in the underarms. Not good. I put it aside for almost a year and this March 2011 ripped the neck out, what a pain in the a** that was! Since I started knitting at the top it was not easy to rip it out like you would at the bottom, where you ended your knitting. It would have taken me longer to rip it than knit it back up again! I wanted to reduce the size from the underarm to neck by almost 2 inches so I cut a stitch where I wanted to start knitting the ribbing and ripped from there and picked up the 100 and some stitches as I went along.

It was totally worth all the extra effort and I love it!
The pattern is wicked, I used Dream in Color Classy, oh and I learned a lesson with this one, it's one of the reasons I ripped it out the first time. You must alternate skeins with hand dyed yarn!!! The top was darker than the bottom, I had no idea. This was before I dyed yarn and the first hand dyed yarn I used, I learn something important with each and every project I make. It's a good thing, really. At least I try to convince myself of this.

I'm always warm, so I made short sleeves and I'd love to make fingerless mitts the length of my arm to go with it, it will feel better under my coat and when I go outside on cooler days. It's on my ever growing list of things to make...hmmm...maybe I'll have them done in 2 more years...

I almost forgot to post this gorgeous skein of yarn I spun this week, there is actually 2 skeins. It's BFL/Nylon.  One skein is 4.4 grams and 138 yards and the other is 4.9 grams and 154 yards. Worsted/Bulky 3 ply. The fiber was not dyed by me. They might go up in the shop, not sure yet.

Sublimity Lace...

...is being discontinued by the company so I will not be able to carry it in my shop anymore :(

Here are the last few colorways I just added to the shop and more can be found in the lace section

They are in order as say are in the shop.

I have this gorgeous annis made from this yarn and my Mom and I both love it! My Mom is usually wearing it at the festivals and it's a hit among many!

There is still some of this colorway left in the shop, too!

Fiber Friday...

.. and my mittens are done! They've been done a while, but I blocked and dried them which takes forever these days, it rains every day lately. My daughter is the proud model, but they are most certainly my mittens! I love them!!

Up next on the...

...spinning wheel is this lovely fiber of BFL and Silk. A very favorite of mine to spin, but I say anything with silk is a such a joy to spin and so pretty and lustrious in the skein, let alone a knitted garment!
No, I did not dye this one myself, but got it from a shop on Etsy.

One down...

...one to go! Mittens that is. I'm making mittens instead of socks. The yarn just didn't meet my standard for socks. Next time hopefully, now I know how thin I have to spin! This is around a DK or sport weight.

Fiber Friday...

...and it's been a good one! I was able to get this fiber spun up this week. I got it long ago and was waiting until I was good enough to spin a fingering/sport weight for a pair of socks! It is from Bird's Nest Yarns.
It is Superwash Merino and Nylon and it spun up beautifully, it is so soft and easy to spin fine.
It is 4 ounces and 200 yards. 3 ply (navajo ply) and sport weight. I have new questions every time I spin something and this time it's how many ounces do I need to spin 400 yards of fingering/sport weight in a 3 ply? I can make a pair of short socks with this, but not tall ones for sure!  I got a new sock book and want to try out knitting from the toe up, can't wait to get started actually! I don't think this skein is going to say in this form much longer, I'm going to get it into a ball pretty quick I think!
Here are a few close up shots, as you can tell I'm pretty proud of this one!
 EDITED TO ADD:

This isn’t no sport weight! I did a swatch on size 3 needles, way too small, size 7, way good. I’m confused :-(

It looks, feels and measures up to other commercial sport weight, but it doesn’t behave like it when knitted. Any suggestions, what’s up with handspun yarn? Should it be similar to commercial yarn? For example: 3.5-4 ounces = around 200 yards worsted or 3.5-4 ounces = 400 + yards fingering? The look and feel will be different perhaps?? HELP! So if the above is true, then my yarn here is worsted weight and I’ve got a long way to go to get a 3 ply sport, let a lone fingering weight! Yikes!

Now I’m disappointed I can’t make socks with this…
