SAL/KAL in true...

...Nordic Style: 2 color knitting! Here is how it began:

I am so excited about the December PhatFiber box! Here's how I got there and I hope you enjoy my plan.

When I was chaining up fiber getting it ready to label I was saying to myself, wow, this would be awesome spun with this or that with this, etc. You get my drift. I kept working...then it came to me again...I wonder if I could incorporate a combo of fibers in a PhatFiber box??? That would be fun! So, I immediately went to my computer to see what December's theme was...not sure at first and I did a little more thinking. Nordic knitting...true Nordic style coming from the Nordic countries Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland is color-work! YES! I've got it...I will pair up colors combos and send them out for the box. I got right to work and it was fun indeed.

I've always loved to spin different color combos, it's not boring and makes spinning much more fun and interesting. Whether I spin the singles and ply them together or spin and ply them alone and then knit them together.

I chose a set to spin myself and did an N-ply with each.

I am hosting a SAL/KAL in honor of Nordic Culture and we will spin and knit a 2 color project
of your choice.  SEE DETAILS HERE!

These are the other 6 color combos that I put together for the box; each are a total of .5 ounces so you can really play with them. To get a PhatFiber Box click here to find out more information!

This is a direct link the fiber, which is 40/40/20 Merino, Superwash Merino/Silk. I love spinning this fiber. Normally superwash is very slippery on it's own, so the 40 added with non-superwash is wonderful to spin, not too slippery. Merino has a shorter staple than BFL for example, so the added 20% silk makes it longer than straight merino, thus easier to spin. It is an all around fantastic fiber to spin!

Don't think you have time because of the Holiday's coming?? No fear, the deadline won't be until at least February, maybe later. I'm taking suggestions here.

Early birds get a discount on their fiber! 15% off now through November with coupon code Nordic12 (it will get you a discount on everything in the shop actually :) Just in case you want to use a different fiber combo or knit with mill spun yarn. The options are endless!

Finally...

...we are back up and running! Christmas weekend was great fun and we continue to celebrate the Christmas season, but with less happenings. I was finally able to get the coveted Vervaine colorway done for those who bought it and it went out in the mail a few days ago.  Top to bottom...Resplendence, Opulence and Nogi. It was interesting to dye 3 bases the exact same colorway to see how differently each of them takes the dye. I know this happens, but it was fun to see in the same colorway.
BTW, there is one Resplendence (merino/silk) still available in the shop, with or without the tea; it is currently listed with the tea, so if you don't want it, just send me a message via Etsy and I will adjust the price for you. There is Merino spinning fiber on it's way to the shop in this colorway, too!
We spent the weekend at my parents, as we do every holiday, since my husbands family lives in Russia. Here is a peak into our Christmas 2010...
It was hard to get a photo of Katya in her pretty dress, since she lived in her dress up clothes as soon as she opened them! Here is one of her fairy dresses...

I took a break...

...from the fair isle sweater I'm making for my son and made him this much more needed hat. I participated in an Indie Dyers swap on Ravlery and got this Merino/Silk/Cashmere yarn in the mail, it was the perfect red to go with my sons coat, I did think twice about the yarn fiber and if a little boy was worthy of such luxury...but of course, I love knitting with it and it so perfectly matches his coat and how often do you really need to wash a hat anyway? I wash almost everything I knit by hand to extend its life, after all I spend countless hours making these things and want them to last as long as possible, perhaps so my grandchildren can wear them some day.

It was a pleasure to knit with this lovely yarn and color, the hat will fit him for many years, and I'm glad because I have a list of other things I want to make, with a few things for me included and never enough time as the list is always growing!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had a fun day with all of my family.

Remember the sale going on in my shop through Monday. You'll get 10% off with code: BLACKFRIDAY10 and it includes all of my yarn clubs, including the tea and yarn, worsted weight, no-pooling variegated and nearly solid clubs, which are already discounted! (Enter the code at checkout.) Enjoy! ~ Angela

Oh no....

...it's the 17th! I was suppose to have the top 5 photos picked out and up to vote on by now! I'll get to it ASAP! The time has been flying by, trying to catch up on things since the festival and knitting or trying to knit my son's sweater, my first fair isle and it's 1 step forward 2 steps back. I keep going to something else, I'm not liking the process at all. I'm spinning this...
...75/25 Alpaca/Merino dyed by me, it's called earth and sky. I'm spinning it on my new spindle...
...that I got at the Fiber Festival. I like to get a little something at each festival, it's something to remember the event with in years to come. It brings back some great memories. I do this when I travel, or use to travel; I bought wine glasses, that was a lot of fun and makes for great conversation at the dinner table.

Anyway... about the spindle...it's from The Dragonfly Workshop. I broke my other favorite, but this was immediately a favorite for it's long, steady and balanced spin. I got to try it out at the festival, so that was a real bonus, and it was great to meet the person who made it and his family. I'm spinning finer and a more even yarn with it, too. It's all very exciting and now I like spinning even more, can you imagine that?
